Just recently, Lee Chong Wei set history by winning two silver medals for Malaysia. Even though I have been somewhat estranged from Malaysia, I cannot help but well up with pride. The whole nation seemed to be celebrating after a tight game of 19-21, and touched at the same time when he broke down and cried in front of millions of viewers. Just 10 weeks ago, Lee Chong Wei tore a few ankle ligaments and soldiered on with painkillers to compete in the Olympics.
Then someone tweeted this:
"Lin Dan wins. He is better than Lee Chong AWAY"
Normally these comments would be brushed off. After all, what's a world without haters right? But what if I told you if he's Malaysian politician?
"Malaysia will win its first gold medal in Olympics after Pakatan (political party) takes over Putrajaya."
"We must be firm with our players so we can see gold one day."
That just angers me. Robbing the pride of hundreds and thousands of Malaysians and belittling all the hard work and effort, blood and sweat of our Malaysian hero to score cheap political points. To turn something that fosters unity and pride in our community into a vile, political propaganda. It's despicable and selfish! grrrrr
