What's MD?

So today in one of my tutorials, we were attempting to explain a graph about healthcare in the different states of America. Someone from our class decided to start off,

"So in states like SA and AR, the healthcare system is pretty good... bla bla bla... and other parts of America, it's like bla bla bla.
But then if you look at MD, what's MD?"

Everyone seemed to not know. So I piped up...

Madagascar.

Yes, country. not state.

 

 Yes, the country with apparently, where party animals that can stand on two feet. 

Then someone laughed. Sorta like a pitiful laugh, as if I needed someone to shove a world map down my throat.

Yes I do agree. I need geography in my life before I say that New Zealand is on the equator or something. sighhhh
